WackyLands is ready for the Apple App Store!

By JuanCarlos

Fair Play Labs started working early this year on a project called Rushville, and it has now become WackyLands.

WackyLands is an extensible collection of casual mini-games designed from the ground up for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch.

These pick-and-play mini-games are designed for casual gamers of all ages that want to play something fast. They use the multi-touch display for precise fingertip control and/or the accelerometer so you can tilt and turn to control the action, making them really simple and fun to use as you move thru the different difficulty levels and have great humorous graphics.

WackyLands Green, the first game pack, will soon be available on the Apple App Store. It includes 3 mini-games: Surfer's Nightmare, Off with the UFO and Hop Hippo Hop. A WackyLands Lite version will also be available soon for free.

New WackyLands will be released every three months with more mini-games to add to your collection!

Please visit the WackyLands page to get your free wallpapers and msn/buddy icons.

Sarah Stocker of Kodama Studios at Fair Play Labs

By JuanCarlos

Last week we had the great experience of working with Sarah Stocker of Kodama Studios, who came to Costa Rica to provide consulting services and some great workshops for our whole team.

Sarah Stocker has over 17 years of experience in the gaming industry; she started at Stormfront Studios where over 13 years she went from Writer, to Designer, Producer, Senior Producer to Assistant Director of New Business. She then moved to Glu Mobile, before becoming the Senior Producer of Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. Studio 5, where she published Lair, SingStar, Eye PSN, Pursuit Force, etc.

She founded Kodama Studios early this year, to offer consulting services directly on design, production and commercialization, and thru her network of seasoned gaming industry professionals in other areas. She is also willing to work with some young studios with talent, passion and great potential for growth like Fair Play Labs.

Sarah commented after her visit: "I'm very excited about developing a long term relationship with the Fair Play team.  I really feel that FairPlay has the talent, passion and opportunity to be a part of the foundation of the games industry in Latin America.  I would love to help the Fair Play team realize that potential, and leverage the energy and momentum of our recent visit."

We are very pleased with the results of her visit and the opportunity to work with her, our whole team is motivated and energized after learning so much in just a couple of days. We look forward to establishing a long term win-win relationship with Kodama Studios, and Sarah's next trip to Costa Rica.

Fair Play Labs accepted in the Sony Latin America Incubation Program

By JuanCarlos

Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) has started a Latin America Incubation Program for studios in the region, and Fair Play Labs applied and has been accepted.

This program will let us learn about the Sony PlayStation Portable or PSP, as a first step towards becoming Licensed Developers. It includes access to official DevKits and the PSP DevNet, and support and coaching by SCEA engineers.

Fair Play labs will be working in the coming months on new game concepts that leverage this great mobile gaming platform and the PlayStation Network (PSN).

We thank SCEA for this great opportunity and the honor of participating in this Incubation Program, and will work hard to become one of the first PSP Licensed Developers in Latin America.

Development for Apple iPhone and iPod Touch

By JuanCarlos

Yes! Apple has announced that the SDKs for the iPhone and iPod Touch are now open and accessible to developers.

Both products are great platforms for mobile gaming, with onboard WiFi connectivity, a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) for stunning 3D graphics, a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) for immersive 3D sound, and an accelerometer and multi-touch display that are great for fingertip and tilt and turn control.

So we have submitted our application and have started to study the SDKs and documentation, and retooling Game Studio for use with these great Apple products.
